Arriving in Palma next week and trying to work out what's realistic. The listings I'm seeing are all over the place, anywhere from €400 to €750 a month for a shared room. Is €550 for a double in a four-person flat near STP reasonable, or am I being seen coming? And is it worth being closer to Portixol instead? Also — do most places want a deposit before you've seen it? That feels like how people get scammed.

€550 all-in near STP is about right this year. I paid €500 last season and it's gone up everywhere. Never pay a deposit before seeing the place. Ever. If they won't let you view it, that's your answer. Two people in my flat last year got caught by a "landlord" who was three time zones away. Portixol is nicer to live in but you'll spend the difference on getting to the yard at 07:00.

Add the walk to your calculation. I stayed out near Son Armadams to save €80 a month and then spent six months walking 35 minutes each way at half six in the morning. Never again.

Also ask how many people are actually in the flat, not how many bedrooms. "Four person flat" sometimes means four bedrooms and seven people.
