First deckhand interview tomorrow — what do they actually ask?

Got a call back from a 40m in Antibes and I'm in tomorrow morning. First proper interview since I finished STCW. I've read a lot of advice online but most of it feels written by people who've never been on a boat. What do captains and bosuns actually ask a green deckhand, and what's the answer that gets you the job?

Honestly? Three things. Can you do the hours. Will you be pleasant to live with. Are you going to leave in six weeks. The technical questions are mostly a formality at your level — nobody expects you to know their boat. What they're doing is working out whether they want to eat dinner with you every night for a season. Practical advice: turn up ten minutes early, take your sunglasses off your head, know the boat's name and roughly what she does, and have one real question ready about the programme. Don't ask about time off in the first interview. And if you don't know something, say so. "I haven't done that but I'd like to learn" is a fine answer. Bluffing is not.

From the bosun's side: I'll ask what you did in your last job, whatever it was. Someone who worked in a warehouse and talks sensibly about it is more interesting than someone who says "I'm passionate about the sea". Also expect to be asked to do a day's work as a trial. Say yes.

Bring a printed CV even though they have it. It's a small thing and it works. Good luck — let us know how it goes.

Update: got offered two days daywork starting Thursday, and they said if it goes well there's a season in it. Thank you all — the "don't bluff" advice came up almost immediately when they asked about tender driving.
